Special guests, Richard Carnegie.richard carnegie

Richard Carnegie has been principal double bass of the Saskatoon Symphony and Chamber Players and lecturer in double bass at the University of Saskatchewan Department of Music since 2006.

In 2009, he was appointed music director and conductor of the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra.

Richard obtained a B.Mus at the Manhattan School of Music in 2003 under the direction of Timothy Cobb, principal bass of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

He later pursued additional studies at the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music with Joel Quarrington, principal bass of the National Arts Centre Orchestra.

Richard maintains a very busy performance schedule in addition to his orchestral and chamber music duties with the Saskatoon Symphony.

He appears regularly with Praire Virtuosi and Saskatoon Opera and is a frequent recitalist.

His creative activities blur the line of a traditional classical musician and include a professional acting debut with Persephone Theatre in "The Buddy Holly Story", collaborations with singer-songwriters and rock bands and his one-man music theatre show "Conversations with My Double Bass".

In 2011 he was one of six Canadians selected to perform in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House in Australia.

The orchestra featured 101 musicians from 33 countries selected from thousands of online auditions.

The YouTube Symphony performance broke records for the largest live streamed music event to date with 33 million live streaming views.

He performs on a double bass made by Saskatoon-based luthier Darren Molnar.
