A dear Visitor came to town.
In late May the Arts Council had the great pleasure of a visit from Marion Stegner and her partner Lee Wright. Marion was Wallace Stegner’s daughter-in-law and is the mother of his first two grandchildren. Wallace was a real mentor for Marion and she has always wanted to visit Eastend, the place so pivotal in the forming of Wallace’s character and his literary direction.
EAC member Laurie Reynolds generously provided accommodation for Lee and Marion at the Silver Willow Gallery and on the evening of May 25th the EAC held a well attended reception in the United Church. Chairs were arranged in a circle and Marion began our discussion with a bit of background information. Several people remembered their parents’ recollections of Wallace’s family and of his incognito return to Eastend in the 50s.
Marion was a charming guest and we all got new insights about WS.
Marion and Lee live in Greensboro Vermont. Lee is a retired architect and Marion is a jewellery maker – www.marionstegner.com.

Silver Willow Gallery 2010 and 2011
One of the many activities in the busy Silver Willow Gallery is the “Concerts in Your Home” series with 6 very successful performances in 2010-2011. Keep an eye out for the next series and book early, these concerts are very popular. Please check the Comments.
Laurie Reynolds, the owner and operator, purchased the Silver Willow Gallery building and set it up such that local artists in the community would have a place to exhibit their work. The Guest House part made it possible financially.
Below is a picture of the performers from last season (2010-2011). (more…)

2011 Stegner Dinner
On March 19 the Eastend Arts Council held the 24th annual Stegner Dinner.
The purpose of the first dinner in 1988 was to celebrate the completion of renovations to Wallace Stegner’s boyhood home and its opening as a residence for writers and artists.
About Wallace Stegner
Home, community and geography leave impressions on a child’s mind that stay with him for a lifetime. Wallace Stegner was seven years old when he first experienced the attachment and comfort of these truths. For a sensitive child whose early family life was marked by constant tension and upheaval, the impressions went deep.
